Martin Hayden was brought up in
Dorset. He taught English in secondary schools in New Zealand and then in
England, finishing his career in Suffolk where he still lives. He is a keen amateur pianist, enjoys climbing in Scotland, and is a member of the Religious Society of Friends. Since 2007 he has had several spells on Iona, as a volunteer with the Iona Community and with his wife has
made three return trips to New Zealand since he retired.
His poetry has appeared in Scintilla, Smiths Knoll and The North, and in two Garlic Press Pamphlets – 'Meeting the
Pilgrimage Halfway' (2010) and 'Good Ground Beneath My Feet' (2020), the latter subtitled ‘Poems from Iona’.
'Green Burial' is his first full collection.
