Born in 1953 and growing up near Reading and in London, Mary Anne Woolf studied at North London Polytechnic and later at Central St Martins College of Art and Design. She went on to work in a variety of jobs including community arts and libraries, but mostly in adult education teaching literacy and numeracy and then as an advice worker for Citizens Advice. She lived in Suffolk from 1980 until 2023 when she moved to Norwich. She has always written poems but has been writing more seriously since retiring.
